When all phones sucked and were usually free, it didn’t matter so much. But now that one phone is so much better than others and is so expensive and has more functionality, it seems odd to be locked into one carrier.

Totally agree. And being “stuck” with an iPhone is really just horrible! How could AT&T do that and get away with it! I mean, being stuck with a half-functional siemens, Nokia, or Samsung is truly a gift that everyone should cherish. And yet they don’t. Go get ‘em, Verizon!
