Israel

Now that I have blogs for all my favorite topics, I think I’ll just start covering political issues here. Controversy! So here it goes!

If you clear your head for a second, and just think about it, is there really a way for Israel ever to have peace with its neighbors? I mean if peace is the goal, and I’m not saying it is, then neither Israel nor its neighbors are really acting in a way that makes them look like they want it.

Here’s the thing about any tightly knit community of like people who self segregate. They create a great big target for anyone who doesn’t like them. It’s like saying, “Here we are, and we’ve gotten rid of everyone else in this area so you can guarantee you’ll only hit your targets and no one else!” They can say it’s unfair that people don’t like them, but they’re the ones who gathered together in the shape of a giant bulls eye. Jews do this sometimes, blacks do this sometimes, and gays do this sometimes. Do straight white christian males do this? If there were less of them, they would, but there are so many they can’t help but be just about everywhere.

My point is, if you want to be protected you need to be with other people, and be needed by other people. That means blending both physically and culturally. That doesn’t mean losing your culture, it means inviting others in. Look at Japanese culture, it’s very strong and very welcoming. Everyone’s invited to participate, and that means none of us want it to go away, because even if just a little, we’re a part of it. Even the gay and black cultures invite others in, although sometimes they say don’t want to. Really, they love the attention. But if you create your own culture and keep it from others, then the rest of the world can do away with you with absolutely no repercussions. That’s not security, that’s dangerous.
