Guantanamo Guard Speaks Out

Tuesday, February 17th 10:28pm Matt

Here is some video featuring Specialist Brandon Neely who was a guard when they first opened up Guantanamo. He’s since been honorably discharged from the military and is now representing Iraq Veterans Against The War.

What I think is particularly interesting about this story is that he’s coming forward out of guilt from his participation. We ask our service men and women to do things most people wouldn’t be required to do. It’s our duty to make sure that when it’s all said and done, they are able to feel that their actions were appropriate to the cause they were fighting for.

But here we’re putting a burden on these men and women. They have to live with the fact that they may have done something unjust under orders. And with the end not justifying the means, they still have to live with that guilt. They can’t just say that they were ordered to do it and then sleep well.
