CSI Miami

Wednesday, February 18th 12:12am Matt

So recently I placed all three CSIs on my TiVo. They’re at low priority so I get them sporadically. I’d never seen any before, but now I love to hate CSI Miami. First almost every main character on the show is ridiculously good looking and apparently extremely talented. The one obvious exception is David Caruso, who clearly does not belong in Miami, I can’t even imagine the makeup and lighting needed to have him on this show. He sticks out like a sore thumb.

Not just visually, he is a total one note actor, and his note strikes discord with the other characters, even the extras. He’s like this serious brooding guy with a pseudo bad attitude, and he just comes off as retarded. I actually don’t like the scenes he’s in, everyone else is fine. Best Week Ever once made fun of him for this, and I didn’t realize how right they were.

The episode this week starts off with a party on the beach. It has cabanas and everyone’s dressed in white, but it looks as if there’s only a total of 20 guests. There’s a DJ to give us the impression that this is a fun party, he even does the obligatory scratch on the record even though there is no scratching for dance DJs. The forty-something host yells “turn it up” oddly in the middle of the most generic dance song as he smokes a cigar, like he’s just all of a sudden realized this is one of his favorite songs.

This is one of those crazy Miami beach dance parties, but without the drugs or alcohol, or even the dancing. Um, right. Do you know why clubs in Miami are open till 6am and then they have after hours after that? It’s not because some fun loving youth just don’t feel like going to sleep yet. Well I guess it is, actually.

Like I say, I love to hate it. I really like their cheesy idea of a Miami party. I love their cheesy idea of people who live and work in Miami. All the shots are heavily saturated and photoshopped to within an inch of their life and it really is beautiful.

I’ve been somewhat disappointed with Miami in real life. It’s a city with a dark secret. I like this Miami much better.
