Obama says, “For you and your families the war does not end when you come home. It endures in the wound that is slow to heal, the disability that isn’t going away, the dream that wakes you up at night, the stiffening in your spine when a car backfires down the street. You and your families have done your duty. Now, a grateful nation must do ours. That is why I have committed to expanding our system of veterans health care to serve more patients and to provide better care in more places.”
I love this. In the whole time George W. Bush was president I don’t remember him doing anything substantive for our troops. Sure he would say they are great, but while cutting back their benefits. I am truly thankful for our troops and I think they deserve great healthcare and more.
I’m also glad Obama acknowledges PTSD. This is the continued price our servicemen pay for their work, and they deserve to be supported through it. To George W. Bush, the troops were disposable. He didn’t think about or care what the repercussions were for the troops, to him they were the lower class that he has never had to understand. He didn’t even show up when he was in the military unless it was picture day. I’m glad to see Obama doesn’t feel the same way. These people deserve our support in real ways, that cost money. It’s totally worth it.
