McDonald’s really has a good thing going with their Monopoly game. But every year since they started the great online game they haven’t planned for traffic and the server has gone down. I don’t know who’s in charge at McDonald’s, but you know, there are companies that specialize in providing servers for events that will temporarily have a lot of traffic.
Also, it’s very odd that you don’t go to a McDonald’s URL to play, you go to promotions.com? Why? That’s retarded and very unprofessional. McDonald’s people, you realize that you could have the URL monopoly.mcdonalds.com for free and it can even point to different servers than your regular web site, right? This way you get the McDonald’s branding without affecting your regular traffic.
Now, they should know this, but the fact that this keeps happening year after year leads me to believe that they might not. I mean, even if they keep the dumb promotions.com deal (which they shouldn’t) you’d think they’d say, “Our servers have gone down every year now, are we sure it won’t happen again this year?” Is McDonald’s more accountable than this when ensuring that their food is safe and fresh? I sure hope so.

They probably do this on purpose since a few years back McDonalds got sued for not administering the game fairly (the good prizes all went to family/friends of McDonalds employees and executives, even though that wasn’t supposed to be possible).
Sometimes its cheaper to pay someone to handle it so you don’t have to worry about the liability associated with doing it yourself.
