But here’s the deal. J. K. Rowling is kind of a horrible writer. I mean the sentences, paragraphs, and chapters are great. But she’s admittedly horrible at math, she’s talked about it in interviews. If you expand math to include the whole concept of logic, you’d be closer to the truth.

The books don’t make sense. Even when they can. As I’m reading I can rewrite even simple paragraphs to “work” better. The movies are even worse, but I blame the directors… and the actors… and everyone else for that. Except Snape. The actor who plays Snape is right on. He’s excellent.

I’ve wanted to talk about this for a while, but I feel like it’s in bad form to talk ill of anything Harry Potter. But now that I accept J. K. Rowling for who she is, it’s easier to read the books. When I reach a part that doesn’t make sense, I realize that it’s very “J. K.” and move on. That’s a good thing because it happens constantly.
